Beatriz Tizón Couto studied English Philology at the University of Vigo and obtained her MA in English Linguistics in 2001. As a postgraduate student, she was awarded several grants from the University of Vigo to prepare her PhD dissertation (European Doctorate). From 2005 to 2009 Beatriz worked as an English teacher at the Centre of Modern Languages in the University of Vigo. In 2009 she worked under contract as a research assistant to the LVTC project while carrying out research at the Centre for English Corpus Linguistics (University of Louvain-la-neuve, Belgium) and the University of Lancaster (UK).
As an active member of the English Linguistics Circle, Beatriz was involved in the organization of the First and Second International Postgraduate Conferences on English Linguistics (ELC1, held in May 2008, and ELC2, held in October 2009), and has edited a refereed volume containing a selection of the papers presented at the ELC2. In September 2009 she took up her previously won (2008) position as an official secondary education teacher of English. She has been teaching at the Official School of Languages in Vigo for 6 years.
Beatriz defended her PhD dissertation (European Doctorate) in October 2011 and was awarded the PhD Extraordinary Award in 2013 (‘Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado’). Her disertation has been recently published as a monograph entitled Clausal Complements in Native and Learner Spoken English. A corpus-based Study with LINDSEI and VICOLSE (Bern: Peter Lang, 2014).
