Publish or perish in linguistics!

25/09/2014

Maria Luisa Carrió Pastor, senior lecturer at the Universitat Politècnica de València, delivered the lecture “Research in linguistics – publish or perish!” at the Faculty of Philology and Translation in Vigo on September 24 2014, following an invitation by the LVTC group. The urgent need to publish research conducted by linguists is a must that has raised a number of issues, to which Dr Carrió Pastor referred in her talk. First, she described the way in which a scientific manuscript must be prepared. Second, she tackled the issue of specifically publishing in journals and books in the field of linguistics and how one can determine the best journal and publisher.

Dr Carrió Pastor is the Head of the Applied Linguistics Department at UPV, where she coordinates the MA and PhD programes in languages and technology. She belongs to the executive committees of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA) and the Spanish Association of Corpus Linguistics (AELINCO). She is the editor-in-chief of Revista de Lingüística y Lenguas Aplicadas (ERIH+). Her research focuses on ESP and error analysis in written English from computational and corpus-based perspectives, areas in which Dr Carrió Pastor has published extensively.
