On 22nd November, the Faculty of Philology and Translation at the University of Vigo witnessed the inauguration of the brand new Language and Cognition Lab (Lang & Co. Lab). The directors of the lab, Miguel Cuevas and Rosalía Rodríguez-Vázquez, both of whom are members of the LVTC group, where accompanied by the Rector of the University of Vigo as well as the Dean of the Faculty, who underscored the importance of opening a facility which will favour truly interdisciplinary research activities within the Humanities. This is indeed the main aim of the directors of the lab, who took the chance to state their aim to gather together experts in Linguistics, Translation, Psychology, Neurology, and Telecommunications in order to carry out outstanding research in the field of language and cognition.
The inauguration, which was recorded and will soon be available at https://tv.uvigo.es, was enhanced by the presence of two internationally recognised researchers, namely Prof. Maria-Josep Solé (Autonomous University of Barcelona) and ICREA Research Prof. Pilar Prieto (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona), who gave a master lecture about English Phonetics and Phonology, and Romance Prosody, respectively.
The lab will be working at full speed in 2019, once it has been fully equiped with the state-of-the-art machinery granted by the Spanish Ministry of Science.
Long live the Lang & Co. Lab!
