ECEG, Eighteenth-Century English Grammars database, is an electronic resource for the study of the 18th-century grammatical tradition which contains bibliographic information about 323 grammars of the English language written between 1700 and 1800, enhanced with biographical information about their writers. The project aims to provide scholars with a comprehensive reference source drawn from a variety of bibliographies, online collections, facsimile reprints and seminal works published from 1903 to 2011, thereby facilitating research amongst the growing research community in the eighteenth-century normative grammatical tradition.
The database was first designed and compiled by Nuria Yáñez-Bouza (then at The University of Manchester; now at University of Vigo) and María E. Rodríguez-Gil (University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, IATEXT) under the auspices of the British Academy Research Grant Scheme (2008-2010). We are immensely grateful to IATEXT for the design and development of the new web interface, in particular to Carlos Martel-Lamas and Francisco Javier Carreras-Riudavets (Lingüística Computacional y Aplicaciones Informáticas at IATEXT) and to Gregorio Rodríguez-Herrera and Alicia Rodríguez-Álvarez.
